CHESHUNT RIFLE AND PISTOL CLUB

Founded in 1899 in response to Lord Roberts' call for "the training of young men in the use of arms to defend the realm", the Club has been situated in various locations around Cheshunt, but settled in its current home in the 1960s.   Like many such clubs, in the early days the shooting was almost exclusively a rifle target shooting facility, but since then it has grown enormously to offer the variety seen today.

Three of our founding members, F. B. Debenham, F.G. Debenham and J. Rochford - commemorated in our annual Founders Day celebrations when club members from all sections ,and their friends and family come together for a bit of friendly competition and a barbecue.

Many of our shooting disciplines are Olympic events, and most are open to juniors and veterans alike, able bodied and those with disabilities, although physical constraints may limit some areas of shooting.

In recent years we have had several international, national, and county shooters, including a Paralympic Champion. Sadly, Isabel Newstead passed away in 2007 - and our newly refurbished indoor 10m air range is named in her honour.
